When a shopping center demolition reveals the bones of a murder victim and the dead man’s ghost begs for justice, psychic medium Simon Kincaide and his partner/boyfriend Vic D’Amato must solve a fifty-year-old crime. The killer’s gotten away with murder…and he’s willing to kill again to keep it that way, which puts Simon and Vic at the top of his hit list.
How was it?
I read this on my way to the airport, in a packed bus during a heatwave, and this short but sweet story kept me distracted and entertained during that hellish ride.
Set sometime after Badlands, Vic and Simon have been together for six months and things have been going well. Vic is quickly learning what it’s like to date a psychic medium with visions and dreams that can incapacitate Simon at a moment’s notice. This novella is a nice glimpse into how a smaller, straightforward case is handled by the new couple/partners. It has a nice pace to it and enough details to make this case as intriguing as the novel-length stories in the Badlands series.
Restless Nights is a short but rich novella expanding the personal and professional relationships Simon and Vic are developing.
