SJ Himes writing as Sheena Jolie brings the newest adventure in The Beacon Hill Sorcerer series…

Angel Salvatore has been through one supernatural war, and it nearly took everything from him.

Over a decade later, the High Council of Sorcery is coming for Angel and all he holds dear–his found family and friends, and the city he calls home. The rising potential of an international war is brewing in Boston, and the infamous necromancer of Beacon Hill will need all his allies, skills, and lessons learned to keep his mate, family, and his future safe.

How was it?

Sheena Jolie‘s The Necromancer’s War is a compelling continuation of Angel Salvatore’s journey, but also of all of the characters we’ve met along the way in The Beacon Hill Sorcerer series. This book is rich with palpable emotions, action, and character growth, cementing its place as a solid addition to the series.

Love Spring Eternal and Blood Omen gripped readers with the looming threat of the High Council of Sorcery descending on Angel and his loved ones, creating the potential for an international conflict brewing in Boston. The conflict is now here and it’s quite juicy, it keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The main antagonist, although larger and more cunning than Malis in The Necromancer’s Reckoning, gives the impression of being a henchman rather than the boss engaged in a war, which is somewhat disappointing given the title.

The book’s title, The Necromancer’s War, sets certain expectations that may not fully align with the plot. For me, the title suggests an epic, grand finale, a war rather than a conflict or the clash happening here. This discrepancy might leave some readers feeling a bit let down. However, there’s definitely a psychological, internal war going on with Angel but the High Council of Sorcery still comes across as a significant threat rather than the ultimate foe that I expected from a “war” narrative.

Despite this small downside, Jolie’s writing is as captivating as ever. They have a unique ability to create characters that seem real and situations that keep you turning the pages. They excel in delivering a mix of intense action and emotional moments. The stakes are high, and Angel’s development throughout the story is palpable. The balance of personal growth, relationship dynamics, and external threats keeps you engaged and invested in the outcome. Some of the highlights of this book are the deep quotes that make you think long after you’ve finished reading.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good mix of MM romance, magic, paranormal, and urban fantasy. It’s a must for all fans of The Beacon Hill Sorcerer series.
