I made a promise to the enemy… and I intended to keep it.
Thank the goddess I have my pride and my wonderful, amazing mate—whose patience matches no other—because the world is in chaos, and Cosmo is my rock, my safe place inside the storm. If only I could find the time between witches, work, politics, and family to prove it to him.
The Shifter and Magi Equality Act is in full effect, supposedly making us equals, but the people themselves—the humans—are still treating us as lesser. Every time I turn around, we’re running into trouble between humans and non-humans.
To make matters worse, witches are everywhere in Fairview City, and the Red Cloth is encouraging humans to join their forces and challenge the equality my people have fought so hard to get.
And now, Anderson is back. Back and gunning for me.
But he doesn’t realize I’m gunning for him, too.
Only Unity Will Spare Us is the fifth and FINAL book in the MM urban fantasy series, The Magi Accounts. It’s recommended to read the series in order because the romance and plot progress throughout the series.
How was it?
The final installment of Michele Notaro‘s The Magi Accounts series, Only Unity Will Spare Us, delivers a powerful conclusion that’s as thrilling as it is heartfelt. It’s an urban fantasy tale of shifters, magi, and humans battling for equality in what has been an emotional journey, that this fifth book brings to a satisfying close.
I blaze through the last few books of this series because I had a deadline so I may not have spent enough time with this finale as I would have liked but I’ll revisit and update if it’s needed.
Right from the start, we’re thrown back into the tense, politically charged atmosphere of Fairview City, where tensions between humans and non-humans continue to escalate. The stakes are high and Mads commitment to seeing it all through is touching and exhausting. But this book is not just about the chaos and action; at the heart of it lies Mads and Cosmo’s relationship, a beautiful, grounding love that’s seen them through many trials in the previous entries and is the emotional core of this story.
The character development in this book, and throughout the series, shines. It’s rewarding to see how Mads, Cosmo, and even Jude have grown and evolved, both individually and as a close-knit family with their Pride. The bond between them and their pride is a testament to the strength and resilience they’ve built together, and the way Notaro crafts their dynamic brings an authentic warmth to this fantasy world. Cosmo’s steady presence as Mads’ partner and rock is still one of my favorite things about them, it makes their scenes resonate with depth and intimacy that’s rare in fast-paced fantasy settings.
This finale doesn’t skimp on adrenaline either—high-stakes conflicts, heartbreak, and those bittersweet, tender moments pull me in and made it hard to rush through the book. The threat posed by Anderson raises the tension, keeping the plot interesting and quite unpredictable.
Reading this book felt like an emotional rollercoaster, yet one worth slowing down for. It was a pleasure to revisit these characters and their world, and while this may be the last chapter in their story, Only Unity Will Spare Us provides a solid farewell to these beloved characters. For those who have been along for the entire ride, this is a satisfying, impactful conclusion that makes it worth a re-read—just to savor every hard-fought victory, loving bond, and resilient spirit.
