Wednesday (Mid-season 2 Review) | All in the Family

Wednesday Season 2 is doing the most, and I mean that in the nicest way possible. From the very first second of the new opening credits (which are amazing), this season makes it clear that it’s doubling down on the weird, the Gothic, and the delightfully offbeat.

Jenna Ortega dressed in black with a deadpan look holding a horn in Wednesday Season 2.

What immediately stood out to me? We’re not just following Wednesday Addams anymore, we’re getting the whole Addams Family experience. Season 1 felt like her solo origin story. Season 2? This is a family affair, and honestly, I’m here for it. If you’ve been craving more of that bizarre Addams energy, you’ll love how much more Morticia, Gomez, Fester, Pugsley, and even Grandma are involved. It adds more dimension, chaos, and emotional complexity to the show.

Speaking of which, Morticia and Wednesday’s dynamic? So much more complex this time around. There’s love there, but also tension, and you can feel the generational weirdness clashing. As for Pugsley, he’s not just a sidekick with a slingshot. He’s a full character now. Goofy, yes. But there’s some depth there. Eugene’s reaction to him? Did not see that coming, given how he was treated in season 1.

We also get more of the classic Tim Burton flair this season, with a little stop-motion backstory, and that Beetlejuice vibe permeating the season. Production-wise, the show is going full Gothic fairytale, and I’m loving it.

Hunter Doohan shirtless with a collar in Wednesday season 2.

As for the cast, Hunter Doohan clearly got the memo about being shirtless 90% of the time and showed up ready. Jenna Ortega continues to knock it out of the park as Wednesday, and I love the ongoing chaos of her relationship with Enid. They continue to be the ultimate introvert–extrovert duo. Their dynamic is so fun and oddly wholesome. And yes, I’ve stumbled across the Wednesday/Enid ship this season and… you know what? I see it.

Also? The Thing is thinging harder than ever. So expressive for a hand. Give that hand an Emmy already.

Biggest surprise? The stalker reveal. I didn’t see that coming at all, and I loved the casting choice there. That twist added an interesting new character and dynamic to the show.

Musically, I’ve noticed the score and soundtrack more this season, too. It’s eerie, playful, and adds an edge that makes everything feel just a bit more cinematic.

Evie Templeton dressed in Nevermore purple and black stripped uniform, with her red frazzled hair in Wednesday season 2.

If there’s one gripe I’ve got, it’s the season split. I get why they did it, but honestly, if you’re going to break it into two parts, give me two solid halves. Either 6 episodes each or even two 3-hour movie-style chapters. As it stands, Part 1 ends with me curious for more but not raving.

So, am I excited for Part 2? Yes. Am I a little mad I have to wait? Not really. And that’s the problem, Part 2 could slip under my radar because I’m not enthralled or counting the days till it comes. The marketing better.

Rating: 7.5 out of 10.
