Review
I can’t say this series snuck up on me since it wasn’t on y radar initially. I had never heard of the book or that the show was being made, what caught my attention is the cast. Alycia Debnam-Carey, in particular, I have fond memories of her in The 100, I even tried to watch Fear the Walking Dead – I watched the pilot – for her even though I never finished The Walking Dead because it stressed me the F out.
The three-episode premiere model that a few streaming platforms always a bit of a conundrum for me because I don’t know if I should review just the pilot or the three episodes. In this case, The three episodes are more interesting to talk about than the pilot. As beautifully shot and intriguing as the pilot is, there’s not much for me to talk about other than the questions that plagued my mind after watching it, one of which is about the real relationship between Alice’s parents. It wasn’t reason enough for me to be sold on the series.
The series is a slow burn, patience and observation are key to getting through it. Questions are never quite fully answered but the crumbs given managed to generate even more questions. It didn’t get frustrating to me because I liked readjusting my theories as I watched the episodes, instead of waiting for them to be confirmed. In that sense, you could say that the show keeps you guessing, and it helps that the theories the series lead me to are themselves unusual for me. This show is a bit out of my “comfort zone,” not a series I’d immediately be drawn to according to TV Time who gave it a 32% lol.
So far I’m intrigued, slightly invested, and waiting for ADC to show up.
