My Year in TV Shows Based on Books: Emotional Attachments, and a Very Serious Top 5

I watched 23 TV shows based on books this year, some brilliant, some baffling, and a few that made me question all my life choices (looking at you, cancellations). From epic fantasy finally finding its footing to adaptations that somehow outshone stories I already loved, this list breaks down the 5 shows that truly stuck with me… and yes, I will roast the ones I love.

Heated Rivalry (Premiere Review) | Magnetic Chemistry, Sharp Tension, and Off-the-Charts Heat

Two hockey players from opposing teams crouch face-to-face on the ice in a tense standoff, under the title Heated Rivalry: Premiere Review, with the book cover of Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid displayed on the right.

The Heated Rivalry premiere wastes absolutely no time turning the tension all the way up. From the very first scene, the chemistry between Shane and Ilya is magnetic, messy, tender, and downright explosive. It’s sexy, beautifully shot, and emotional; It’s the kind of queer sports drama that hooks you instantly and refuses to let go. If this premiere is any indication, we’re in for a wildly addictive season.
