Review
This show is a soft launch for me because I’m not twelve, didn’t grow up reading these books – I’m pretty sure I have them somewhere, I think ten or twelve of them were gifted to me at some point but I have yet to cracked the spines - so I don’t have the nostalgia-tainted glasses to see this show in. I’ve watched both movie adaptations starring Logan Lerman and Alexandra Daddario but I don’t remember them well.
I still went into this show with an open mind, excited to dive into another interpretation of Greek Mythology. The show is beautiful, quite stunning actually with good visual effects, and a young cast that is nailing it but the story is not captivating enough for me. There’s not much of an escapism here. I’m still mildly interested but I could see myself forgetting to check out the other episodes. It wouldn’t be a chore to do it but I’m not hooked yet. However, these first two episodes are setting up the world of the series well, peppering some nice comedic moments amidst the drama, but I hope things pick up a bit by the next episode. There was mention of a quest so I want an adventure.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians starts off with potential but it’s not quite there yet. I wonder how newcomers are experiencing this show?
