Review

The second season of Will Trent kicks off with a bang, starting us off with a thrilling case that brings a lot of emotional depth that remind us why this show continues to shine. From the car bomb investigation to the intricate personal storylines, the episode balances intrigue with poignant character development.

The show introduces a new character, Cricket Dawson, portrayed brilliantly by Susan Kelechi Watson (This is Us). Cricket is smart, proficient at her job – a bomb expert -, and beautiful. She’s a breath of fresh air, someone who effortlessly complements Will’s personality. Her interactions with him are a delightful blend of sweetness and humor, creating an undeniable chemistry with Will. It’s a testament to the skillful writing and acting that I quickly became invested in their budding relationship. They made me fall in love with the idea of Will and Cricket in record time. Cricket could be the perfect antidote to Will’s heavy past. She became a character I didn’t know I needed.

However, the show maintains its edge with a move that is sure to leave most viewers flabbergasted. The premiere dives deeper into Will’s trauma, which now feels more raw and exposed than ever. It’s clear that Will has a lot to process, and this season seems poised to explore his emotional struggles even more intensely.

Despite the emotional rollercoaster that this first episode was, with Will’s trauma becoming more apparent than before, the show is on a great trajectory giving Will a lot to deal with. Meanwhile, the episode also delivers on other fronts. Angie struggles with her desire to return to work while battling her own demons, Faith continues to develop her relationship with Luke, and Ormewood gets a sharp dose of karma that gave me some much-needed comic relief amidst the tension.

Season 2 of Will Trent starts on a high note for me, setting the stage for an intriguing season.

Rating: 8.5 out of 10.
