Review
Last season of Reacher was a wild ride, with the 110th MP squad being targeted, pulling Reacher back into action to take down the ones gunning for his old team. It was packed great action, high-stakes drama, and plenty of Reacher’s wit. But now, Season 3 is here, and it’s diving headfirst into Persuader, the seventh book in Lee Child’s iconic series. Reacher goes undercover to rescue an informant held by a haunting foe. And let me tell you, the three-episode premiere is an absolute banger.
Right from the opening scene, this season gave me goosebumps – it perfectly captures the tension and intrigue that made Persuader such a gripping read. The humor is still spot-on, with Reacher delivering those dry one-liners and reactions that make me smile. The mystery is set up just as brilliantly, giving viewers – none book readers – just enough clues to piece things together without spoiling the bigger picture. And the tension? Oh, it’s there. Every time Reacher sneaks around, you’re on the edge of your seat, waiting for him to get caught.
One thing I love is how the show is handling the adaptation. Unlike Season 2, which jumped between past and present, this season keeps the focus on the present – at least for now. I’m betting flashbacks to Reacher’s history with the ghost from his pas, Xavier Quinn, are coming, but for now, the linear storytelling feels fresh and keeps the pacing tight. And for book fans, they’ve made some changes – like cutting the mother character -, which sanitizes some of the darker elements but still keeps the story engaging.
Also, can we talk about Alan Ritchson? The man is committed. We’re getting more beefcake this season, I don’t think I’ve seen this much of Ritchson’s skin since Blue Mountain State, and honestly, it works. Ritchson is still the perfect Reacher – imposing, sharp, and effortlessly cool. The action is as brutal and satisfying as ever, and the show continues to balance its gritty tone with moments of levity.
If you were one of those people who thought Season 2 didn’t live up to Season 1 – which, by the way, I totally disagree with -, Season 3 might just win you back. It’s sticking so close to the source material that it could be arrested for assault, while managing to adding its own flair, and it’s clear the creators are listening to the fans. Whether you’re a book reader or just love a good action-packed crime thriller, Reacher Season 3 is off to an incredible start.
