The Thursday Murder Club (Movie Review) | A Cozy Crime Comedy with Wit, Charm, and Heart

Chris ColumbusThe Thursday Murder Club doesn’t waste time; right from the jump, we’re thrown into a case, and honestly, that’s half the fun. The film nails a cozy vibe, mixing a countryside English estate setting with a playful whodunit that feels like Murder in a Small Town, just swap out the British Columbia greenery for rolling lawns and teapots.

The mystery itself is pretty simple, but it works. To be fair, I wasn’t really trying to outsmart it; I was more than happy just hanging out with this charming quartet. Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley, and Celia Imrie are an absolute delight together, and there are even some fun details, such as the sly nod to The Queen and other notable actors in supporting roles.

It’s a fun, cozy crime caper with plenty of heart, and it left me wanting more. If you liked the movie, I suggest picking up Richard Osman’s book. I suspect it expands on the characters and might be just as fun a read. I’m seriously hoping they adapt the other books in the series.
