Review
Although I was waiting for this show to come out, it managed to creep up on me. I was too busy and tired on the release day to give this my full attention.
The pilot does feel like a spy thriller but one of the more psychological ones, more focused on intrigue than action. The problem might be that the intrigue here is not as attention-grabbing as they might think, so maybe leading with action might have been a better idea. I had a lot of understanding of the emotional components of the episode than actually feeling and empathizing with those emotions. So there’s still a distance with the show for me, I’m not totally pulled in yet.
However, the show does do an excellent job of establishing Fury’s working relationship with Talos, Maria Hill, and even Falsforth. The depiction of the plight of the Skrulls on Earth is solid but it might have been better if we’d seen more of them in their Skrull form.
Secret Invasion starts off well enough, there’s enough intrigue to keep me going and it feels different than what we’ve got until now, but I have the feeling that this show was meant to be binged giving how it unfolds.
