Review

Harlan Coben has a special place in my heart because he was one of the authors someone I lost often read. So even though I have yet to read one of his books, whenever a book is adapted I’m always curious.

I don’t know much about this show and that was on purpose. I didn’t want to spoil myself but one thing is for sure the strange things started to creep up really quick in the show I don’t know what it’s all about but I’m kinda down even if Mickey is acting a bit crazy. I haven’t been through the kind of pain he has but I would have shown more restraint. It’s like he’s never heard the word chill. I also instantly took a liking to Arthur Jean Spindell from the first moment he was on screen, Adrian Greensmith did an excellent job because that kind of quirky, almost annoying, and yet confident is hard to pull off. He looks so genuine, friendly, and comfortable in his skin I love it. Jaden Michaels is also excellent but his character is a little annoying.

The pilot does more than a decent job of raising a lot of questions that I want the answers to. The following two episodes flesh out that mystery with enough answers and more questions to keep it interesting, but it does seem like some things were skipped as if a scene or two were cut. The show also has these Nancy Drew moments – whenever Mickey, Arthur, and Ema are investigating – that sometimes a bit feel off, and although the interpersonal relationships do not overpower the series it does add some spice to it.

Rating: 7.5 out of 10.
