We’re halfway through Season 3 The Wheel of Time, and to be honest, it’s shaping up to be the best one yet. As much as I’ve loved the show, the previous seasons have had their ups and downs. The show has found its stride, and everything just feels more refined, more intense, and more exciting. It brings Robert Jordan’s world to life in a way that feels both grand and intimate, suited for a visual medium. The pacing? Spot on. The character growth? Absolutely. The action? Easily the best we’ve seen so far.
From the very start, this season has built momentum, the premiere leaped the overall story forward. The following episodes move the story forward with precision and in a meaningful way, keeping us hooked without feeling rushed. Adding depth to the characters and lore, making the world feel richer than ever. This season just feels different – in the best way possible. If Season 2 laid the groundwork, Season 3 is where The Wheel of Time fully embraces its potential.
One of the biggest highlights so far? The performances. The cast is delivering some of their best performances yet. Rand’s journey through Rhuidean – my favorite episode so far – is a standout moment, thanks to Josha Stradowski’s incredible range, especially in his portrayal of multiple characters and his flawless delivery of the Old Tongue. His journey through his past – and the glimpses of Moiraine’s futures – added emotional weight that hit hard.
Aviendha’s internal struggle, Lan’s quiet yet powerful presence, and Egwene’s trauma and dynamic moments continue to add layers to their arcs. Even side characters shine, Gaebril’s introduction was handled perfectly, and the way the show isn’t playing coy about his identity makes the story stronger. The casting choices remain impeccable, with Couladin’s introduction and Sevanna’s early characterization being highlights. Small details, like hints at Sevanna’s love for luxury and power, are already showing, laying the groundwork for what’s to come.
Visually, this season is on another level. The gateways look incredible, like rippling air ready to transport us into the action. The battles are intense, well-choreographed, and have a real weight to them. But it’s not just the action sequences. The flashbacks and visions – especially Rand’s journey through Rhuidean – were some of the most emotionally gripping moments so far. The Latra scenes? Chilling. “Rand’s” moment with Mierin? Lewin’s story shaping the Aiel? So well done. Also, love that little detail of Lewin’s friends mirroring Mat and Perrin.
Rand’s visions and flashbacks are some of the most compelling scenes yet, particularly the glimpses of Latra, the moment with Mierin, and Lewin’s journey that ultimately shaped the Aiel. The attention to detail, like Lewin’s friends mirroring Mat and Perrin, adds a layer of depth that longtime fans will appreciate.
I do have minor concerns, while most of the season has been an improvement, Perrin’s storyline has me a little nervous. The adaptation choices around his arc are slightly concerning, but it’s too early to say for sure where they’re headed. Hopefully, the show gives his journey the same care and depth as the others. Halfway through Season 3, and it’s clear this show is firing on all cylinders. Everything feels bigger, better, and bolder. The world-building is richer, the stakes are higher, and the storytelling is sharper than ever.
The real question now? Can the show keep up this momentum and stick the landing? If what we’ve seen so far is any indication, we’re in for an epic second half. Bring it on!
