Review

I’ve been interested in this movie for years. Why didn’t I watch it? I was invested in the Ryan Philippe-lead TV series and didn’t want the movie to spoil it for me.

This movie has suspense, corruption, and a skilled individual against powerful enemies. Bob Lee Swagger is a patriot and a sniper who got disillusioned with the army after a disastrous mission. Three years later they reel him back in to consult on a security matter that will backfire on him.

The elaborate conspiracy that Bob Lee is entangled in is full of twists and turns that will keep you engaged, entertained, and cheering for Swagger. It’s the ever-present greed at the source of the problem, which is nothing new, but it allows us to spend some time in the mind of sniper; gives us a glimpse as to what it takes to be one. Swagger is skilled, has solid principles, and pushes himself to his limits to uncover the truth. His determination and resourcefulness are amazing. There are little to no over-the-top moments, this movie is pretty grounded and has great action scenes, sniper tactics, and a high-stakes game of cat and mouse.

Shooter is a thrilling intelligent action movie that’s worth your time, it’s engaging, keeps you on the edge of your seat, and is just fun to watch.

Rating: 8 out of 10.
