The Homesman adapted from Glendon Swarthout’s eponymous novel, The Homesman celebrates the ones we hear nothing of: the brave women of early pioneers in 1850s in America. It’s the devastating story of these women whose hearts and minds were broken by a life of bitter hardship in the American West. A “homesman” must be found to escort a handful of them to a sanitarium but none of the county’s men steps up. Mary Bee Cuddy (Hilary Swank), a resourceful ex-teacher, and spinster finds a low-life claim jumper George Briggs (Tommy Lee Jones) to help her. Thus begins a trek east, against the tide of colonization, hardship, Indian attacks, ice storms, and loneliness.
