Review

The last season of What If was so impressive that I was curious to see what was in store for the second season. This show has the license to continually do what the most highly regarded MCU movies have done, which is mix and match genres. Each episode has the opportunity to be as unique and/or quirky as it needs to be. This first episode has the detective noir genre with the futuristic sci-fi Blade Runner aesthetic that suits its main character Nebula. I love that it’s not a complete 180 of her character, on the contrary it tracks. Nebula looks cool and competent as a detective with the skill and attitude that we already know her to have. She is delightful in any form, and here she gets to interact with somewhat unexpected characters. I liked the team she assembled and the villains. This was a fun first episode of the season, and I’m looking forward to more.
