The song choice, Bob Marley‘s “No Woman No-Cry” is brilliant on so many levels. To me, it signals to the fans that “everything is going to be alright” despite the tragic loss of Chadwick Boseman, but also it speaks to the characters in the story, these women who lost a son, a brother, a protector, and a king. The songs in the trailers are powerful and comforting while being paired with intriguing images and quotes.
Although we – I mean I – don’t know much about the story, this teaser gives us glimpses of heroes and antagonists. We have the MCU’s Atlanteans, some of who have blue skin; a good look at Tenoch Huerta as Namor with his winged ankles, Mabel Cadena as Namora, and Alex Livinalli as Attuma. For the Wakandans we have new faces like Michaela Coel in blue Wakandan garb seeming fighting with the Dora Milaje, and Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams.
But Queen Ramonda’s speech and her arrival at the U.N. makes me think that a war by proxy might be at the center of this story. After Wakanda revealed themselves to be far more advanced and powerful than they previously seemed to other nations. I would bet that some of these nations and/or corporations are actively trying to undermine Wakanda in any way they can. So that might be at the root of what looks like a conflict between the Wakandans and Atlanteans.
